Artifact / Reflection:
As the Leadership Development Executive for PREP my sophomore year, I was placed in a leadership position with more ambiguity than any other position I had been in before. Due to the amount of growth PREP had given to me freshmen year, I felt a huge responsibility to give back to the organization and the freshmen we now had.
Leading in this role pointed out the importance of my partner Jett and my fellow executive team. With Jett I was able to lead 9 freshmen to develop 54 other freshmen. Through this experience I learned that a large part of leadership is not independence but interdependence. Knowing I could always could on Jett to back me up or call me out for my benefit caused this timing to be a growing season. Through my experience leading with Jett we also created a professional trip to Exxon-Mobil. My artifact below is a picture of the girl executives because this team taught me how to lead together and not for my own glory.
Moving into a work setting where I am not going to be placed in a leadership role, I know that using the skills I have learned, to be a successful follower will equip me to one day lead other people in a work setting. This is why I decided to pick a firm that had more personal mentorship due to its smaller size and attention to the individual. I am very excited to learn from the people who's leadership I will be under to better impact the world around me.
